The new collection 'Portraits', edited by Arquitectura Viva, includes different texts by Luis Fernández-Galiano on the life and work of a group of contemporary architects. Moneo the teacher is the first title of it, and in successive installments the remaining ones dedicated to Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas, Renzo Piano, Frank Gehry, Herzog & de Meuron, Peter Eisenman and Santiago Calatrava will appear. Illustrated with drawings by the architects themselves, and enriched with in-depth interviews, biographical reviews and analysis of the works, these little books want to offer pixelated portraits of current masters, informative and critical at the same time.
The 96-page book 'Moneo el profesor', in a soft cover, collects sixteen articles, published over the last three decades, that cover the fertile career of Rafael Moneo. Introduced by a brief biography that makes it easy to locate the different buildings discussed in his career, the sequence of texts begins with the presentation of the monograph of his work published by AV in 1992 and ends with two reflections by the architect himself on his itinerary intellectual and on the development of his work. The remaining texts deal in detail with projects such as the Fundación Pilar y Joan Miró, the Illa barcelonesa, the extension of the Murcia City Hall, the Kursaal de San Sebastián, the Los Angeles Cathedral or the Bank of Spain in Madrid, and use the academic dimension of Moneo to suggest the lessons incorporated in each of his works, from the Bankinter headquarters or the Mérida museum, which he himself has taken care to explain in articles and books, a teacher above all else.
