Matilde Ucelay: dibuixant un camí is an album that illustrates the life and work of the first Spanish female architect (1912-2008). In 1936, when she graduated, it was a troubled time in our country and her professional life was no stranger to the historical moment. The main scholar of the life and work of Matilde Ucelay is Inés Sánchez de Madariaga, and her studies have been of great help to create a visual tour of the circumstances that Ucelay lived through, and to summarize her architectural work.
The original seed for the book is Fiona Doncaster's 2021-2022 baccalaureate research paper, which earned her a Lilly Reich Grant from the Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the 10th CRACS Award 2022 from Universitat de Girona.
In this book, she wanted to give visibility to our country's first female architect and make her story better known. Without our first references it is difficult to know how to value the efforts made by the women who have preceded us.
If you want to know the life of the first Spanish architect in the form of images, do not hesitate to buy a copy of this illustrated album. You will find an artistic vision of someone's biography through flashes of color.
