In the late 1920s, young Catalan architects and designers came together in the need to renew the aesthetic and philosophical approaches of art. They wanted to flee from any unnecessary embellishment or decoration, they proclaimed that the form should be subject to the function, and that there could be no beauty in anything that was not practical or useful. Likewise, they also wanted to get normal and ordinary people, the so-called popular classes, to live in dignified and quality homes.

Joined in the Group of Catalan Architects and Technicians for the Progress of Contemporary Architecture, the famous GATCPAC, these young architects worked in tune with the great artists of the moment, such as Dalí, Miró and Picasso. And they also did it in complicity with the social and political changes of the 1930s, the progressive and transformative republicanism that was cut in dry in 13939 with the outcome of the Spanish War.
